Why Neurophysiologic Monitoring?

There is a substantial risk of injury to the nervous system during surgeries on the spine, brain, or nerves in the lower back and neck. Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring is a science used during these surgical procedures to prevent damage to the nerves in the brain or spine. Using the latest intraoperative monitoring equipment, a neurophysiologist can constantly test the brain and spinal nerves in order to warn the surgeon before a potential injury occurs, preventing permanent injury or paralysis.
